What is robotic surgery?

At OB-GYN Associates PC, the doctors utilize the da Vinci® Robotic Surgery System. Robotic surgery is a type of laparoscopic surgery that allows your practitioner to make a few tiny incisions, rather than one large open incision to perform surgery.

Through these tiny incisions, your practitioner inserts a miniature camera and surgical tools to visualize and perform the surgery. The advantages of the da Vinci system are the intense magnification of the camera and unique wristed tools that bend and twist more than the human hand, so you get a precise and minimally invasive surgery.

What problems does robotic surgery help?

The da Vinci system is used by practitioners with advanced surgical training. Some of the problems that can be corrected with minimally invasive robotic surgery include:

During your surgery, you will be sedated before your practitioner makes tiny incisions at specific locations on your abdomen. Next, your practitioner inserts laparoscopic tools into your abdomen.

Using the camera to guide the tools, your practitioner will perform your surgery. In some cases, you can return home the same day to recover, or you may stay in the hospital for another day. In most cases, you can return to your normal activities within a few weeks.
