Preparing for a 3-hour glucose tolerance test:
• Nothing to eat or drink besides plain water for 12 hours prior to your scheduled testing time.
• You may take any medications you need except for chewable or gummy medications due to the sugar content.
• You may brush your teeth.
• When you arrive in the office, we will draw your blood to get a fasting glucose level.
• After your blood is drawn, you will be given a 100-gram dose of glucose to drink. You will be required to drink this within five minutes.
• We will draw your blood every hour after you have finished the drink - at one hour, two hours and three hours post drink.
• You will remain in the office for the entire testing period and may have nothing else to eat or drink during that time.
• Please plan to be in the office the entire morning.
